The purpose of motivation & the motivation for Meaning
"He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how"
Nietzsche
"Humanistic psychology is a psychological perspective which rose to prominence in the mid-20th century in response to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. With its roots running from Socrates through the Renaissance, this approach emphasizes an individual's inherent drive towards self-actualization and creativity….One of humanistic psychology's early sources was the work of Carl Rogers. Rogers' focus was to ensure that the developmental processes led to healthier, if not more creative, personality functioning. The term 'actualizing tendency' was also coined by Rogers, and was a concept that eventually led Abraham Maslow to study self-actualization as one of the needs of humans. Rogers and Maslow introduced this positive, humanistic psychology in response to what they viewed as the overly pessimistic view of psychoanalysis."

Motivation
How do we go about turning the stories of our lives into tales of meaning?
We can all agree, it is no simple task. Living a purposeful life takes motivation, passion and desire. For certain not every moment of every waking hour is going to be experienced as a step closer to a life story of meaning. However, even the relatively mediocre activities of life can come to play a role as a purposeful step toward our goal when we engage in it in such a way that is reflective of a deeper sense of purpose.
